Ben Barnes to Play Dorian Gray

The Hollywood Reporter says that The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian star Ben Barnes has being cast to play Oscar Wilde's iconic character Dorian Gray in an adaptation of the author's novel, "The Picture of Dorian Gray."

Producer Barnaby Thompson and director Oliver Parker, who previously teamed to make An Ideal Husband and The Importance of Being Earnest and most recently co-directed St. Trinian's will make "Dorian Gray" at the end of July this year.

Thompson said Parker is planning to make a visceral, dark horror story and says the themes of stardom are as relevant as ever.

Parker and Thompson are also re-teaming behind the lens to make St Trinian's: The Legend Of Fritton's Gold, reteaming the writers from the first one, Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft.

I think it's good for a rising star to see the effects of extreme self-centeredness. It'll help him to make wise choices in the future, hopefully.

ummm Pop Dorian Gray is a story about a man whos vanity ultimately is his downfall..so the fact they got in someone who is good looking is a no brainer. And he has the accent. So i think it perfect casting

I'm currently reading the novel. Before I saw this news, I'm picturing Ben Barnes as Dorian Gray. They're both handsome and British.

i think it is a very controversial role and judging from his stage background he will bring it on screen to the max! he has all that is needed for the role! interesting to see the downfall of Dorian by someone who is such a great actor! hope they don't turn it into a scinece fiction thingy too much!
