George Lucas on a Fifth Indiana Jones

Fox News' Roger Friedman caught up with George Lucas at the Cannes Film Festival who revealed there's more than a strong possibility there will be a fifth "Indiana Jones" movie.

He says that he and director Steven Spielberg have left the door open for a sequel to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

"I haven't even told Steven or Harrison this," he told Friedman. "But I have an idea to make Shia [LaBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.

NNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shia does not have enough experience yet to carry this franchise. Personally I don't see much in him but I trust Spielberg in his vision for Shia. But I do not think that Shia could carry such an iconic franchise on by himself at this point. If they do it, come back years from now when he is ready.

As long as they call it "Mutt Williams" instead of "Indiana Jones", I have no complaints, just don't sell us a Ford movie with little to no Ford.

I saw this coming, and as the tv spot says: there's only one Indiana Jones. A new movie about Indiana but without the Indiana doesn't look too good. But please don't turn this into another Lucas bashing forum

No, George, no! DO NOT reduce Harrison Ford to just a minor role! TERRIBLE IDEA! I mean, how can it be Indiana Jones without, you know, Indiana Jones in the lead role?

Well you know I agree with Bane, Is they want to create a new franchise, but completely new that's ok. I mean something that doesn't sound like "Indiana Jones Chronicles/PostOrigins: Mutt Williams".

This is a horrible idea. Lucas has lost his mind even more than I had thought. NOONE wants this! I say they make Indiana Jones 5 WITH Indiana Jones and just end the series there. Then, for the love of God, move on to other projects LUCAS! Just can't rest until he destroys everything that was great with horrible sequels/prequels.
