Nicolas Cage is The Bad Lieutenant

Nicolas Cage will star in an updated version of 1992's The Bad Lieutenant with Werner Herzog directing, Edward R. Pressman producing and Avi Lerner's Nu Image/Millenium Films financing, reports Variety.

The original film, also produced by Pressman, starred Harvey Keitel and was directed by Abel Ferrara from a screenplay by Ferrara and Zoe Lund. That film received an NC-17 rating with the depraved title character heavily involved in drugs, gambling, sex and stealing while a New York police officer.

The new script's written by Billy Finkelstein, a TV writer with credits on "Murder One," "Law & Order" and "NYPD Blue."

Production will start in late summer.

The '92 original is a classic. I can't see Nic Cage doing anything like what Harvey's "Lieutenant" does, like forcing 2 girls in a parked car to simulate giving oral sex while he beats it standing outside. Kinda doubt it. And FIRST!!!

whats with all these remakes? original thoughts anyone? Herzog is pretty good, though but cage has become a joke. ghost rider and wicker man and his ridiculous hairline ruined it for him. what was his last good movie?

and Werner Herzog...what the ****...At least it's not Uwe bol...And it is produced by Millenium, so maybe will get à darker movie as herzog will have more power I think...

yeah man, nic cage is past his prime, its time to put him on a dusty shelf somewhere, close the door and tell stories to our grandchildren about this scary looking guy who made couple of good movies.
