Jan de Bont Directing Point Break Sequel

May 13, 2008

Jan de Bont (Twister, Speed) is set to direct Point Break: Indo, says The Hollywood Reporter.

RGM Entertainment and Essential Entertainment will executive produce this Asia-based follow-up to director Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 original, which starred de Bont's Speed lead Keanu Reeves as an FBI agent casing a gang of surfer bank robbers. The new film will take place 20 years after the disappearance of one of the criminal surfers (Patrick Swayze).

Both the original and sequel are written by W. Peter Iliff. The trade says plot details and possible character reprises have not been disclosed, but the film will shoot in Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Taylor Morgan Pictures' Chris Taylor and John Morgan will produce. RGM's Devesh Chetty, Essential's Jere Hausfater and Neil Kaplan, and de Bont will executive produce.

Nothing wrong with follow-ups, especially if they're tieing up a lose ends...

hmm since the original writer is back then could be good. Loved the original.

But seriously doubt Patrick or even Keanu will be back to who the hell is gonna play those characters?

I think Patrick S. is suffering from cancer. As for Reeves I wonder if he's ready to immediately play in a cop role again just after "Street Kings" bombed out?!

Street Kings did not "bomb out." Sure, it only just barely made back its budget domestically, but doubled that with international grosses. It's also a damn fun movie and will do very well with DVD sales and TV rights.

I dont think Patrick can come back..he is too busy trying to stay alive while battling cancer, and theres even reports saying that he wont last the rest of the year.
To all of you that smoke...google Patrick Swayze's recent pics, and after seeing him how he looks...ask yourself why youre still smoking.
