Nicole Kidman to Play Dusty Springfield

Writer Michael Cunningham (The Hours) told New York Magazine that Nicole Kidman will play English pop singer Dusty Springfield in a biopic.

"She was a great artist who no one knew what to do with," Cunningham said. "She was coming into her full powers at the same time the Beatles were," he said, adding that she suddenly found herself the purveyor of a dying torchy genre. "But she is clearly going into history with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones."

Cunningham said the film would include the lonely years in exile from the U.K. in Hollywood, the drinking and the drugging, and the tortured bisexual/lesbian feelings that wove through her checkered career, which ended when she died of cancer in 1999.

Please don't let this be true. Get somebody who can show some real emotions, not just stone like facial expressions. And what about the kid she's about to have? Is she going to go straight from the maternity ward to a film set? This is project # 7 or 8 she already has lined up, if true.

Nicole Kidman is one of the most successful and the best actresses in hollywood. I believe that she will pull it off if she signs up for the new role in the new biopic, she's a great actress and this movie will be perfect her. Nicole Kidman i am supporitng you all the way, i am your biggest fan here in Fiji.

I would have to agree with Mike Fawcett. i love Nicole Kidman and she is a fantastic actress. I too support her decisions 100%. For all those of you who hate her because of her last few films, that is stupid. She has had so many good roles before that and, let me say, bewitched and stepford wives are guilty pleasures.

I loved Dusty Springfield's powerful performances then and still do. Contrary to other opinions, I think Nicole has proven through many recent movies that she has the skill to portray such a complex, attractive, and compelling character.

Dusty Springfield's music was and is incredibly loved by her fans and the a lot of the music industry. It would be great for someone like actress Nicole Kidman to portray part of her life. Ms. Kidman IS talented. I think she should have the chance to show us how good she really is in such a role.
