Director Eli Roth Ditches R for PG-13

Eli Roth, the director of the "Hostel" movies and Cabin Fever, is aiming for a family crowd with his next project.

Reuters says Roth is two weeks away from finishing a script for a sci-fi action film inspired by the mainstream hits Cloverfield and Transformers.

"This will be my first big-budget, PG-13, mass-destruction movie," he said Wednesday. "I went total chaos and pandemonium."

He declined to detail the plot ahead of a "big announcement" next month.

"I feel like I pushed the violence in R movies about as far as I can push it. I feel like I'm bled out. I wanna switch it up," added the 36-year-old.

"Everyone I know has been saying 'When are you gonna do a movie my kids can see?' And finally, I'm gonna make a movie that 13-year-old kids can see."

I won't criticize unlike some the a**wipes who's probably going to make some snarky & whiny-like-a-little-girl comments after I've had my say. Hopefully, whatever the "big announcement" is, it better be good.

Wasn't Eli Roth essentially the poster boy FOR R-rated affairs? It's like Michael Jordan switching to baseball: you keep wondering what the hell's he doing there.

Eli Roth is one of the worst directors ever inflicted on the public! Even if he directed a new Godfather movie, I wouldn't see it! I hope this movie fails miserably so we can be rid of this man!

I wonder if this is in any way related to the news I read around here about him directing the film adaptation of Cell, a book by Stephen King. How odd it would be to me though if Eli Roth of all people started doing pg-13 flicks and began with a very violent novel by an infamous horror novelist. Nowadays though people try to push flimsy, badly acted/scripted garbage on us in pg-13 movies and try to pass them off as "sophisticated suspense horror" like The Ring or The Grudge.

The Cell maybe?

Eli has made some bad ass movies,his movies have had some of the goriest stuff in them,and that is the kinda stuff I love.Cabin Fever was good,just a little goofy,but I loved the Hostel movies.I'd like to see what he has in mind even though it's PG-13.

I was not impressed with Eli's work in Cabin Fever and Hostel. It didn't seem personal and a bit too goofy for its own good but Hostel: Part II was a huge step up for Eli and I am curious, to say the least, on what this project will be and how it will turn out.

it all depends on what the movie is about considering if its gonna be a rated r or pg-13.. so just have to wait and see..
