Fox 2000 is set to bring Brian De Palma's The Fury back to the big screen, reports Variety. Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman will write a contemporary reimagining of the 1978 supernatural horror film.

The updated version will center on a young man with heightened kinetic powers who is abducted by the government in order to take advantage of his special gifts.

The original, starring Kirk Douglas and John Cassavetes and released by 20th Century Fox, was based on John Farris' 1976 novel of the same name.

Ted Field is producing through his Radar Pictures. Mike Weber executive produces.

So let's count how many great horror remakes there have been in the last 10 years. That's right, none.

Is it just me or is this wave of remakes a poor excuse to cash in on the young movie going public...if they can't appreciate the originals...deal w/ it. Because you know what's next folks...they'll remake the classics, like Jaws, The Thing, The Fly, The Exorcist and Psycho(again)

Dude, The Thing and The Fly, assuming you're referring to the 80's versions, were both remakes themselves. And I'm quite sure there were many people then who denounced the remakes, just like everyone here does on a daily basis.

I'm not saying most of the remakes aren't crap, they are. But most movies in general are crap, and out of the dreck we get a few gems to appreciate. If the good ones happen to be remakes, so be it.

The Fly was definitely a remake (and I think better) but John Carpenter’s “The Thing” was far superior and more of a direct adaptation of the short story “who goes there” than the 50’s movie was. Technology has caught up with some of these early films intentions but enough is enough. I lost it when I heard the where remaking Escape from New York. That’s just over the edge ridiculous.

Back in the 80's, there were a few well deserved horor remakes like the fly and the thing(which is in consideration of another remake). But back then there wasn't alot of remakes until now and days. So the reason there are alot of horror or non-horror remakes today is the movies back then didn't have the realistic computer effects like today. Although I must agree that it is bull**** that hollywood can't come up with new original ideas for movies.

I tried to go along with these remakes... I got my hopes up because there were really only a few that I appreciated... Texas Chainsaw... The Hills Have Eyes... I liked The Amytiville Horror remake actually... But I agree, we need some new writers or something because this remake business is losing too much blood too fast
