ComingSoon.net just got off the phone with filmmaker Vadim Perelman, best known for his Oscar-nominated debut House of Sand and Fog and whose second film The Life Before Her Eyes opens next Friday. He updated us on the progress of his highly-anticipated adaptation of Ayn Rand's literary classic Atlas Shrugged, which he was attached to direct back in September before his new movie debuted at the Toronto Film Festival.

Perelman told us that he's finished with the script and just doing a polish on his rewrites but that Lionsgate has told him they want to move forward and start preparing the film in the fall to shoot in December, dependent on the script being in the right place by then.

Even though it's reputed to be one of the world's longest novels, Perelman believes they've got the screenplay down to a reasonable length, and he told us that actress Angelina Jolie is still very invested in making the film, being one of the project's "spearheaders."

You can read a lot more with Perelman in our full interview sometime next week.

I've heard House was great, but I've not seen it. I'm assuming it's good enough, though, considering he landed this job.

I was wondering what the deal was with this one. They've been trying to bring it to the screen for years, but now we'll see....who is John Galt?

Given the scope of the novel and its themes i don't imagine hollywood doing a servicable job on my favorite book, which is unfortunate.

They had better not ruin this book! How Hollywood can make a pro-capitalist movie is beyond me. This won't end well.

I think I'd rather have them make Bioshock.

Hopefully this movie will inspire those who see this. I feel that a film like this is what we need.

We need someone who will "stop the world from turning" to show us what great people that we can be.
We need someone who will show us that not everything in this world needs to be based on a job title. All in all a world where someone like Tyler Durden's monologue more than just a monologue.

press on people.

Press....on.

Why is this even being made? The novel has no body that is even remotely likeable. And why is Jolie so interested in playing this part?

Joe,

Take your whiner liberal tendencies elsewhere.

Well here we go again, Jolie really likes a book, so hey let's make a movie about it. Last time something like that happened Battlefield Earth was borne *cringe*

This too is one of my favorite books, and I can't see them getting this right, the only way would be to do a mini-series like Band of Brothers. Too much ground to cover in a 2 hour movie, and I agree, they'd have more luck adapting Bioshock.
