Columbia Pictures Prepares for Battle

April 11, 2008

Columbia Pictures has preemptively picked up Battle: Los Angeles, a sci-fi script from screenwriter Chris Bertolini, for Neal Moritz to produce via his Original Films, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story follows one Marine platoon's encounter in the battle against an alien invasion on the streets of Los Angeles.

"I love the idea, and I love the script. I like it all," Moritz said. "We are going to be in production within six months. What's attractive to me is that it's a huge event movie that can be done at a modest scale."

Bertolini wrote The General's Daughter.

jrrrz, I assume you're referring to that crap with C Thomas Howell. That's actually the sequel to another version of War of the Worlds, which went straight to DVD. I would guess it was pretty awful, and I'm sure the sequel was even worse.

It's about time they blow up LA...it's always keep bombing NYC. So this should be different I think

Why the hate for WOTW? Even Cruise was in it...the movie still rocked!!!
As for this Battle: Los Angeles, sounds too much like a videogame to me....Or a ground war version of Independance Day. But hey, Marines vs. Aliens in LA, Im there.

Orlando: youre right...Movies always pick NY to destroy, its about time LA gets a licking.

LA got a pretty good licking by aliens in Transformers. How about a completely different city, like Honolulu, or Atlanta, or Kalamazoo, Michigan? People would go see it just to see why they didn't destroy LA or NYC. Doesn't sound like some great new idea but I'll probably see for the same reason I'll keep going to see Jurassic Park sequels: surround any unbelievable situation with enough CG action and I'm there.
