ComingSoon.net has learned that Warner Bros. Pictures is currently planning to reveal the trailer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars in theaters with the studio's own Speed Racer on May 9th. We are uncertain at this point when the trailer would debut online, though studios usually bring trailers online that same week.

The August 15 release will feature such characters as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padmé Amidala, along with brand-new heroes like Anakin's padawan learner, Ahsoka. In the film, Sinister villains – led by Palpatine, Count Dooku and General Grievous – are poised to rule the galaxy. Stakes are high, and the fate of the "Star Wars" universe rests in the hands of the daring Jedi Knights. Their exploits lead to the action-packed battles and astonishing new revelations.

The theatrical debut of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be followed in the fall when the TV series premieres on Cartoon Network, followed by airings on TNT.

first to comment...

I still have mixed feeling about this, I don't if this movie idea is a good idea or if anyone still wants to see more of the prequels story.

well see I guess what the trailer looks like and has anything new to add to the story.

It'll be cool, cause the CGI clone troopers won't look off and out of place in a CGI MOVIE!!!

...as compared to the 2nd two prequel films.

Yeah, this movie may confuse people since the franchise "ended" a few years ago. Also since they're using the voice actors from the Clone Wars cartoon series as opposed to getting the actual actors from the movies, my expectations aren't too high in terms of voice-acting quality.

That said, I'll wait until I see the trailer to make a concrete opinion on whether or not I'll be looking forward to this.

Instead of mining the prequel era yet again I would've much rather watched a CGI show set in the years of the original series but not featuring any of the main characters. How about following the Rebels trying to survive in the underworld of the Empire. Much more interesting subject matter. I mean we already had the cartoon Clone Wars series, and this just looks like that show all over again, just made with CGI instead of cel animation this time around.

Matt touches on a good point. With all this hey-let's-bring-back-childhood-icons stuff going on (Indiana Jones, Speed Racer, Transformers, etc) why wouldn't Lucasfilm expand on the original trilogy a bit more?

Remember, Lucas is also working on a live-action tv series that will take place closer to the time period of the original trilogy.

Agree with several of the comments. Let's start fresh. "Unlimited" graphic potential since it's CGI and, like Matt said, there is better subject matter out there post Episode VI, or pre-Episode I.

I'm not going to try and convince anyone that Clone Wars isn't a ploy to sell more prequel toys. I do, however, believe that the 2D cartoons were better than the live-action prequels, and the trailer currently running for the 3D version on starwars.com looks spectacular. Also to Bryan: according to imdb.com, most of the voice actors are new; more realistic sounding than their toon counterparts.
