17-year-old Thomas Sangster (Nanny McPhee, Love Actually) has been cast to play comic book hero Tintin in the trilogy of performance capture films to be directed by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, according to the Daily Mail.

Sangster, from South London, has already been to Los Angeles to work on pre-production test sequences with both directors.

He'll be joining Andy Serkis, who has been cast as Tintin's sidekick Captain Haddock.

Filming on the first story involving Tintin begins in the fall, with Spielberg directing. Peter Jackson will direct the second movie.

At the end of this month, Sangster begins working with Oscar-winning director Jane Campion on her film Bright Star, a love story with Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish portraying John Keats and his lover Fanny Brawne.

He'll be 18 when they film it. That pictures looks old, around the time he was in Love Actually (from 2003). No recent picture of him though, CS? Come now.

On second thought, he's a bit older there than he was in Love Actually. Still can't be a recent pic though... can it?

Somehow Tintin reminds me of Colin Hanks. Too bad Hanks is too old for the character.

17? As if, this kid looks like he's 12! Gonna have to break out the CGI to make him look more mature. Nice choice with Serkis as Haddock though.

So Spielberg's making the first, Jackson the second, are they both working together for the third?

I really, really, really hope that they won't bastardize this series. I've always have faith in Spielberg and Jackson and in their work, but Tintin is truly something special.

As much as I love Andy Serkis, I was kinda hoping for someone else to be cast as Captain Haddock. Oh well, it's cool. I hope we'll get some good stars in this.

as a last note, I'm still not so sure if this all should be done in motion capture. Regular film would be fine with me.
