Scooper 'brnbro63' sent this to us Monday morning regarding the filming of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, coming to theaters on May 8, 2009:

If anyone is interested, the new 'Star Trek' movie began filming at Cal State Northridge today. Looks like they are filming a scene at an academy/school because everyone is dressed in same crimson uniform. There is also a very cool car/cart that was driven onto the set, looks like miniature 3-wheeled version of Mach 5/ Star Trek insignia.

Now, Ain't It Cool News has posted photos of the filming described above which you can check out by clicking the pic below.

I was hoping the costumes colours would be less "cartoony" and more realistic (kind of like ST: Motion Picture) or cool (Star Wars).

I think this has been a missed opportunity and cannot see this appealing to non-Trek fans.

I supect this might be another box office flop -which happened to ST: Nemesis (even though I enjoyed the film).

I for one am glad that Paramount is trying to use the formula that always worked for them.
Long live the original crew. Even though a younger cast plays them. I hope it works out.

You don't think there's reasons WHY Shatner isn't in this one? I'm sure there are reasons that can't be divulged. Regardless of who plays the Cap, the entire world knows there is ONLY one James Tiberius Kirk...and that's Bill Shatner. I'll be interested to see who plays Jean Luc Picard in 20 years if they ever reimagine STNG.

im sorry but the ONLY reason nemesis didnt work out was timing... the lord of the rings trilogy were like god to 90% of the world back then and releasing star trek up against one of them was the dumbest marketing move i have ever heard of.... not to mention cutiing over 30 minutes of storyline out of the final release... JJ can pull this off for sure... rebirth is a good thing... just look at batman ... it was given new life when they decided to go back to the formula that works... with the plot of this star trek centering around rescuing kirk in the past so he makes it to the future makes sense that shatner cant fit into the story...
