Paramount Pictures is Animating Heavy Metal

Paramount Pictures will make an animated film inspired by the '70s sci-fi fantasy magazine Heavy Metal, with director David Fincher spearheading the project, reports Variety.

Heavy Metal will be stamped by the erotic and violent storylines and images that remain the trademark of a magazine that debuted in the U.S. in 1977. The magazine introduced the works of American artists and writers such as Robert Silverberg, Harlan Ellison and H.R. Giger.

The film will consist of eight or nine individual animated segments, each of which will be directed by a different director.

Fincher will direct one of the segments; Kevin Eastman, the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" co-creator who is now owner and publisher of Heavy Metal, will direct another. So will Tim Miller, whose Blur Studios will handle the animation for what is being conceived as an R-rated, adult-themed feature.

Fincher, Eastman and Miller will produce the film. The studio will lock in the other directors shortly. The magazine previously spawned a 1981 animated feature and 2000 sequel.

a little late guys, and the sequel and video game (which was GREAT) also have come out. IS there really a market for this? Loved John candy's role in the first one.... but I have NO interest in seeing a new vision of it. Much like the new hulk.... what a terrible trailer.

It honestly couldn't hurt. The first two were actually fairly tepid.

There are already two "Heavy Metal" movies, but if David Fincher is on board, i think that could be a great movie.

Well, the first one was fairly amusing...however the sequel was a total let down, even with Julie Strain being in it...However, if they are gonna use art work by Giger, I'm actually anxious to see it.

WHY DO YOU PEOPLE HAVE TO BE SO NEGATIVE ABOUT EVERY STORY ON HERE. ITS DEPRESSING TO READ THESE COMMENTS WHEN HALF OF YOU PEOPLE ARE SAYING THEY SHOULDN'T MAKE IT OR COMPLAIN THAT IT'S NOT PERFECT. ALSO COMPLAINING ABOUT SOMEONE SAYING FIRST IS ANNOYING. WHO CARES. LETS ALL BE POSITIVE. MOVIES ARE ENTERTAINING EVEN WHEN THEY AREN'T THE BEST. LETS BE POSITIVE AND HAPPY THEY WE ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO SEE THESE MOVIES FOR OUR ENJOYMENT.
