Madagascar Gang to Escape 2 Africa?

The Madagascar sequel long know as Madagascar: The Crate Escape might get a new subtitle -- "Escape 2 Africa." Trademork.com writes:

On March 3, 2008, Dreamworks Animation filed to protect the trademark Madagascar Escape 2 Africa in relation to "animated motion picture films for theatrical release and for distribution via television" as well as a variety of goods and services related to Dreamworks' Madagascar franchise.

The studio has also registered MadagascarEscape2Africa.com, another hint that they are going in that direction.

The sequel, featuring the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith, David Schwimmer, Sacha Baron Cohen, Cedric the Entertainer, Andy Richter and Alec Baldwin, opens in theaters on November 7.

The first one was okay, not DreamWorks best. And their best is usually crap anyway.

But, here's a note to the idiots over at Paramount: move this into the spot where Star Trek was supposed to open, in December. It would be suicide if they opened against Quantum of Solace. But, knowing that if DreamWorks does a film over 90 minutes their computer explodes, and that QoS will probably be about an hour or so longer, then maybe they might have a shot. But it'll only be in North America, and, like Happy Feet in '06, would do so well against Bond overseas.

Ugh. The new title is terrible. The Crate Escape was a nice reference to The Great Escape and didn't do that oh-so-new thing of adding '2' in place of 'to'.
