British helmer Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) will direct action-adventure pic Prince of Persia: Sands of Time in Morocco for producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney.

The epic project is a live-action feature based on the videogame. "Prince of Persia" has a script by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (The Day After Tomorrow) and game creator Jordan Mechner. The videogame spawned six installments and numerous spin-offs, boosting Disney executives' hopes for a lucrative new tentpole.

The choice of Morocco as a shooting location will be a boost for the North African country's film biz.

"Prince of Persia" will also film in UK's Pinewood Shepperton studios. The Moroccan section of the shoot is expected to start in mid-June.

i loved "stands of time", i played it more than a dozen times. but i'm not sure about the movie project. jordan mechner should exclusively write the story to make it work because everyone has seen what happens when hollywood takes matters from gamer's hands.

yea hope Jordan Mechner has some involvement in the adaptation so it won't turn out like every other game adaptation.
And why not just shoot it in Iran? The game is really popular their and some of the old cities look right out of the game.

This could be very cool - blatantly given the green light with Pirates Of The Caribbean in mind

Dwayne Johnson!?
Gael Garcia Benal!?
Naveen Andrews!?
Javier Bardem!?
Benjamin Bratt!?

Does anybody out there know some good actor of persian descent that can be good for this movie. I don't think it's necessary with a star but I'm not sure the studio feels the same...
