Exclusive: The Dark Matter Trailer

ComingSoon.net is exclusively debuting the trailer for director Chen Shi-Zheng and screenwriter Billy Shebar's Dark Matter today. The drama, starring Liu Ye, Meryl Streep and Aidan Quinn, opens in theaters on April 11.

Dark Matter delves into the world of Liu Xing (Chinese for "Shooting Star"), a Chinese science student pursuing a Ph.D. in the United States in the early 1990s. Driven by ambition, yet unable to navigate academic politics, Liu Xing is inexorably pushed to the margins of American life, until he loses his way.

Hmm...being an Asian myself, I see some potential in this film with the political issues it addresses. Really looking forward to it. However, I seriously want to live to see the day when it's actually mundane to see a respected Asian character in a US film who speaks fluent English (there was that 1 guy in the trailer, but I really don't know how large a part he has). Especially, a film that no longer needs to address why the character's Asian. That just gets on my nerves sometimes.

Dark matter theory really interest me, but this film really seems like its trying to hard to be a thriller, at least from the way the trailer is put together.

The film isn't actually about dark matter, it's about how the modern american scientific commnunity has become a dangerously antiproductive consensus clique.

What the hell? This looks to have been filmed here in my stomping grounds (Orem, Utah). Don't they know we don't believe in science out here??? ;)
