A first look at Paramount Pictures' 3D CG-animated The Smurfs feature is now online. "The Smurfs" originated in 1958 as a Belgian comic strip from Peyo (Pierre) Culliford. NBC launched "The Smurfs" in 1981, spawning 256 episodes and multiple Emmy awards.

First up, you can check out the last 10 seconds of a video talking about "The Smurfs" during which they give you a brief glimpse at the animation process. You can check it out in Windows Media format by clicking the image below:

Then, there are also these displays from the Happy Smurfday Euro Tour.

Well, at least it looks like its going to stick pretty close to the way the original Smurf cartoon looked.

Um...this looks like it should be direct to DVD released.

If you are going to release this in theaters, then at LEAST make it live action.

Pardon me sir, but NBC did not launch The Smurfs.

"The Belgian cartoonist Peyo introduced Smurfs to the world in a series of comic strips, making their first appearance in the Belgian comics magazine Le Journal de Spirou on October 23, 1958."

Please give credit where it's due. And please remember that the fact they're even making a film about this really goes to show how hard it is for Hollywood to keep coming up with original ideas as long as they keep sticking to the same B.S.

not sure how theyd make the smurfs live action GK1....would prob look kinda silly, plus think of the heavy CG to make them look real as opposed to the CG just to animate them as toons...plus who would really see a live action smurf movie ? not me...i loved the smurfs, but theres more of an audience for stuff like transformers. gijoe, voltron, etc

I can't believe there is so much money and time and people etc. being put into this.
This is a strange world we live in.

Sooo. I wonder if Smurfett will continue her "whorish" ways in 3-D as well or will she be a good Smurf?

Like most kids growing up in the eighties I loved the Smurfs but I look at this and I think meh. It doesn't stir up the least little bit of nostalgia maybe seeing an actual trailer will be different but right now all I feel is apathy.
