Efron to Star in Footloose Remake

Variety reports that Paramount is developing a musical remake of the 1984 film Footloose and will develop it for "High School Musical" star Zac Efron and director Kenny Ortega. Dylan Sellers will produce.

Ortega is in talks to helm and choreograph, and Efron is in talks to play Ren McCormack, the rebellious newcomer (originally played by Kevin Bacon) in a town where dancing has been banned.

The original was directed by Herb Ross and written by Dean Pitchford.

The trade says the plan is to turn the project into a full-blown musical. Footloose was already turned into a Broadway musical.

Efron makes his feature debut in Hairspray, which New Line releases on Friday, July 20.

there is honestly no point in them remaking this movie cuz there's no way Zac's gonna live up to Kevins Bacon plus all 80's musicals have great music and dance numbers but the plot lines are always so weak and boring... sorry but it's true

Its already a great movie i really dont think they could make it any better and i just think it sucks that they think they should remake it.

I live in foster which is 8 miles from Elmore City and I agree with Rachel there skewing up Foot loose and Zac is a queer.

omfg....this is one of the best movies ive ever seen in my life....and theres no effing way that they can even think of remaking it....plus why the heck does it have to be zac effron. shudnt a guy be playing ren, not a girl? seriously...its going to be a huge failure...trust me....they'll prolly put reallu cheesey dance #'s in it...like i said....why bother remaking int...wast of time...and i agree with travis....zac is queer!

I think that its a good idea i love the movie footlosse and i loved Kevin bacon starring in it. Zac efron should do a remake to get more kids interested in dance its a healthy sport so every chance he can get to get more kids interested in it is great plus his hot and i know i wouldnt mind seeing him shaking his stuff in another show. ;)

The girls comments so far have just been supporting Efron as a Hot new teen star. For god sake people, look at his talent before his looks. Beside the role of Kevin Bacon in Footloose was a rough newcomer from Chicago. Efron is a pretty boy. I dont think its the right role for him. But what do i know. Hes never done a role like this so we dont know for sure. Lets wait and see.... lol
