Neuromancer Coming to the Big Screen

William Gibson's prescient sci-fi bestseller from the '80s, Neuromancer, will get the big screen treatment from veteran producer-distributor Peter Hoffman, reports Variety.

The $70 million pic is essentially being fast-tracked to replace the Paul Verhoeven project The Winter Queen. The latter is being pushed back until at least next spring because leading lady Milla Jovovich is pregnant.

Joseph Kahn, a Korean-American commercials director who made Torque for Warner Bros., has signed to direct.

Visit Gibson's official website for more info on the book.

Well, it's about gotdamn time! I just hope he doesn't F it up. Hopefully Kahn will do as good a job for Neuromancer as Ridley Scott did for Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Blade Runner).

This is going to be an absolute travesty. Firstly they have chosen an actor who does not act (Hayden christensen) to be the protagonist. Secondly it is being directed by a man who has predominatly directed music videos for dire rap bands, musicians who do not make music.

As much as I love cyberpunk and enjoyed Neuromancer I am dissapointed already. Where are the Watchowski brothers when you need em?

No matter what other people say about Neuromancer, I'm looking forward to see that movie!

P.S. Johnny Mnemonic was not so bad at all ;-)

I really hope they do a good job. A movie could never be as good as the book, but if even if it's merely entertaining, it will have done it's job.

I disagree. Neuromancer was an artistic event, not just a piece of entertainment. In order to do its job, the film adaptation will have to convey the original artistic message Gibson intended. I hope they have him on board for the production.

Joseph Kahn?! Hayden Christensen?! Jeezus!!
I don't think it can be done. Not with Mannequin Skywalker as the lead and not directed by a rap video 'director' As much as people want some books just can not be made into visual art (the Watchmen for example)
It would be like making the Dark Tower series into a 2 hour film...can't do it. This will surely suck and there is not enough CGI thats gonna make this float. They will probably bring back Ice-T for this one just to pour salt into the wound.
