Landon Talks Christine Remake!

Stephen King's hellbent '58 Plymouth Fury, Christine, is back in the shop for some modern retooling, no secret there. However, who are the creative mechanics working under the hood? Word trickled over to us that Disturbia co-writer Christopher Landon may be flirting with the project. In talking with him one-on-one about his latest Dreamworks thriller (he shares screenwriting credit with Carl Ellsworth), Landon was hesitant to delve deep into the subject of a Christine remake, but he did confirm his possible involvement.

"['Christine'] has been all over the place," he says, alluding to the property's travels as a rumored SCI FI Channel Original to Sony and NBC's plans to turn it into an event telepic. "If it happens or not we'll see, but when I came in what I wanted to do was really go back to the book, the source material. I'm a fan of the Carpenter version, it is fun. But the book was much more of a possession story than it was just a killer car. That's what made the book so great is that what was so terrifying was that it wasn't just about an inanimate object running around and killing people, it was a boy who was sorta being taken over by the former owner of the car - and there was something more terrifying about that. Also, I just love the dynamics of the characters and so forth. Right now it's way too soon say anything else about it. We're so in the thick of deal-making, I don't want to blow anything else!"

Fair enough. King's original 1983 novel was turned into a John Carpenter film that same year starring John Stockwell (director of Turistas), Keith Gordon ("Dexter") and Alexandra Paul ("Baywatch"). Not long ago, a remake of the film was announced along with an update of King's Pet Sematary.

Look for more Disturbia coverage as we near its April 13th release and keep an eye out for ComingSoon.net's horror division, ShockTillYouDrop.com, to launch around that ominous date!

I liked John Carpenter's version of Christine a lot since I was a kid, but I have never read Stephen King's novel which I'm going buy and read.
When I heard the remake rumours I wasn't too pleased, but I am ready for it if it comes!
Too many remakes have turned out to be rubbish in my opinion and I'm hoping that this one doesn't!

well chris good luck to ya i hope you get it we need another movie to watch the old christine is just getting old ive only seen it about 154 times lol but ya if you do it please keep the old music that is pretty much christines soul and personality is through the old 50s music because IMO new music sucks im only 17 years old i love christine old music old cars antiques etc if you do do a remake do not under any circumstances use another 1958 Plymouth Fury if you want to do it by the book then fine use the 1958 Plymouth Savoy or Plaza which are the 4 doors because that is what christine was in the book it was a 4 door not a 2 door 4 doors are not really that important really, or if you dont feel like tracking a couple of those down on ebay then use a couple of the new Dodge Challengers ;) with a custom ordered two toned red and white or something

Ok the book was a lot more detailed than the movie. Buy aren't most books to movies? It's your imagination working for you when reading a book. The movie, it's all there for you to see. I love the movie and the book. I would love to see a remake but for the love of god, please don't destroy any more 57 and 58 plymouths. There aren't many out there anymore and I still haven't purchased mine.

Oh... a possession story? There are too many of them already, I liked the rampant evil car story.

The book I found rather boring. I've tried repeated to read it all the way through but failed.
