Tommy Lee Jones in Burke's Electric Mist

January 29, 2007

Tommy Lee Jones will star in an adaptation of James Lee Burke's novel "In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead," adapted by Mary Olson-Kromolowski and Jerzy Kromolowski, reports Production Weekly.

Jones will portray Cajun detective Dave Robicheaux, previously played by Alec Baldwin in Heaven's Prisoners. Directing is French filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier, who is scheduled to begin production in April, with locations around Louisiana.

Hollywood has sent its emissaries to New Iberia Parish to film a Civil War epic in the steaming mists of the Louisiana bayou -- reawakening the ghosts of a past best left undisturbed.

The restless specters wait in the shadows for cajun cop Dave Robicheaux -- as he hunts a serial butcher who is preying on the less-then-innocent young. For these spirits are the guardians of Robicheaux's darkest torments -- and they hold the key to his ultimate salvation...or a final, fatal downfall.

This was a great book and if you a fan of the writer - you know Tommy Lee Jones is a perfect "Dave Robicheaux".
I hope this is a great film and we see more to come. (wish they cast Dave's sidekick Clete Purcell but don't think he was in this novel - talk about a wildman).
Looking forward to it!!!!

I have always wanted another Dave Robicheaux movie. I have read almost book Baldwin was an OK Dave but Tommy is perfect and more the correct age esp. with the current books! The Electric Mist is my favorite Robicheaux book but never dreamed they would make this one into a movie! I will miss Cletus but hopefully this movie will be good and the first of many, so Cletus might be coming?

What actor would make a good Clete?

RE: Clete Purcell
Guys, the James Lee Burke website indicates that John Goodman was cast as Clete so they have woven him into the story.

John as an adopted son of New Orleans will make a perfect Clete, in my opinion. Almost like typecasting.

My husband, friends, and their motorcycles were extras in the movie while being filmed in New Iberia and St Martinville, LA Hope they are edited out of the final release. Cant wait to see it. The Harleys made more money than they did! But they had fun.
