The project formerly titled Amityville, ShockTillYouDrop.com has today learned that the next entry in the horror franchise has a new title. The Franck Khalfoun (Maniac) film will now be released as Amityville: The Awakening.

While plot details are scarce, we know Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cameron Monaghan and Bella Thorne star as a family who move into the Long Island home at 112 Ocean Avenue.

The last film, a remake of The Amityville Horror, was released in 2005 and starred Ryan Reynolds, Melissa George and Chloe Grace Moretz. It opened in the month of April and grossed an estimated $65 million domestically and over $100 million worldwide.

The first adaptation of Jay Anson’s novel – an account of the Lutz family’s time at 112 Ocean Avenue – came in 1979 and was followed by Amityville II: The Possession, Amityville 3-D and five more installments until the remake came along.

Amityville: The Awakening is currently set for release on Januar 2, 2015.
