Long in development, plans for a big-screen take on Seth Grahame-Smith's Jane Austen reimagining, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies are moving forward as Deadline reports that the supernatural horror period drama will begin productions next month with a cast that includes Lily James (Cinderella) as Elizabeth Bennett, Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows) as one of the other four Bennett sisters, and Sam Riley (Maleficent) as Mr. Darcy. Jack Huston is also said to be in talks for a role.
Burr Steers (Igby Goes Down) is directing the adaptation of the best-selling book, which offers an "expanded" version of the Austen classic. The book tells the timeless story of a woman's quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the undead into vicious killers.
Scripted by Steers and David O. Russell, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will be produced by Natalie Portman, Marc Butan, Sean McKittrick, Brian Oliver, Annette Savitch, Allison Shearmur and Tyler Thompson.
