Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids star Rebel Wilson is set to headline a big screen remake of director Howard Zieff's 1980 comedy Private Benjamin, The Wrap reports.
Goldie Hawn starred in the original film as the title character, a newlywed who, upon the sudden death of her husband, decides to join the Army. The new version is said to follow two women, a wealthy city girl and a redneck, in the same situation. Wilson will play the latter character.
The original film, a substantial box office hit and the recipient of three Oscar nominations, spawned a CBS television series, which ran for three seasons.
Mark Gordon, who previously planned to remake the franchise in 2010 with Anna Faris in the lead, is producing.
