Variety is reporting that Electronic Arts is gearing up to turn their popular survival horror series Dead Space into a film franchise. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li screenwriter Justin Marks is reportedly signed on to draft the script of the feature adaptation with I Am Legend's Neal Moritz on board to co-produce the film.

At a Comic-Con panel about video game adaptations, Marks has said the film shouldn't be 100% faithful to the game in its execution, citing instead: “You would be making ‘Event Horizon’ or ‘Alien,' I’ve already seen that movie.” Marks elaborated further by saying the filmmaker should strive to tell the main character's story in a way designed for the film medium.

While no director was mentioned to be at the helm of the project, the one name that comes to mind for us is none other than the Horror master himself, John Carpenter. Carpenter has expressed much interest in adapting the property in the past, saying: "I maintain that 'Dead Space' would just make a great movie because you have these people coming onto an abandoned, shut-down space ship and they have to start it up and something's on board. It's just great stuff.  I would love to make 'Dead Space' [into a film], I'll tell you that right now. That one is ready-made."

EA is at work on the script for the project at the moment and will begin to shop it around to studios upon its completion.
