Less than a week after the Oscars where The Weinstein Company took home three awards, two for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained
and one for David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook
, the studio, notorious for its strong drive during awards season, has dated four of its recent pick-ups for the fall season.
Things kick off on October 18 with Ryan Coogler's Fruitvale
, a movie that The Weinstein Company picked up in a fierce auction at the Sundance Film Festival before it won two of the festival's top prizes.
Next, on November 8, they're releasing John Wells' adaptation of the award-winning Tracy Letts play August: Osage County
, starring Oscar winners Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper.
The Weinstein Company's most recent pick-up, the biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom
, starring Idris Elba and Naomie Harris, will be released on November 29.
Finally, they're going to try to get Oscar winner Nicole Kidman back into the Oscar race with her portrayal of Grace of Monaco
, which will be released over Christmas weekend on December 27.
No word on which of the above four movies will get a wide release on those dates or will just be given a limited platform release to be considered for awards followed by a slow roll-out, something that's proven very effective for previous Weinstein Company hits Silver Linings Playbook
and The King's Speech
