The Spike Jonze-directed Where the Wild Things Are is back on Warner Bros.' release schedule. The adaptation of Maurice Sendak's children's book is now set for a release on Oct. 16, 2009. The pic stars Catherine Keener, Benicio Del Toro, Forest Whitaker, Lauren Ambrose, Catherine O'Hara, Tom Noonan, Michael Berry and James Gandolfini.

In other release date news, another movie has moved away from Quantum of Solace's new date on Nov. 14. The Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac comedy Soul Men will hit theaters a week earlier on Nov. 7. For next year, Richard Kelly's horror film The Box, starring Cameron Diaz and James Marsden, was moved back up six months to its old date of March 20, 2009.

The Todd Phillips comedy Hangover, starring Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms, is now scheduled for June 12, 2009, where it faces the proposed The A-Team and Eddie Murphy's Nowhereland. Two months later, Final Destination 4 was moved back a week to Aug. 21, 2009.

The summer following, the Zack Snyder-directed animated-adventure Guardians of Ga'Hoole now opens on July 23, 2010.

lol, from the headline, I thought they were talking about a remake of the 1998 movie that starred Denise Richards.

i hope warner brothers hasn't ****ed with Spike Jonze's vision for 'Where The Wild Things Are'... this film will be amazing as long as they let him do his thing.

U've gotta be kidding me...Where the wild things are??? A film being made by Spike Jones??? On the Childrens book??? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Looks like ****. I'm sure AICN will love it.

I look forward to seeing it. but im more interested in seeing Spike Jonze's oringinal intent than whatever changes their making for 2009. maybe we'll get it on dvd.

i thought the film was canned.

i can rest easy tonight knowing when final destination 4 will finally arrive in theaters...phew.

Posted by: j on September 5, 2008 at 17:23:52

Where The Wild Things are will be a child's classic, if WB has messed it up. Glad to hear The Box is coming in March I bet it will be really good, I still really like Richard Kelly I actually thought Southland Tales was pretty good.

Posted by: j on September 5, 2008 at 17:26:52

Also glad to see Killshot and Fanboys are finnaly coming out...

Posted by: The Card on September 5, 2008 at 17:46:32

I predict Fanboys will still be sitting on the shelves where it belongs.

I saw a few a minutes of a finished rough cut a couple weeks ago in a theatre I work in and what I can tell you is that Spike has gone for very dark take. It was not anything like the book. There was no CG mouth movements, but quality and quantity of the creatures out in the woods for the scene I saw was very impressive. Time will tell if it's going to be any good.

Hmm, I don't get it. I thought WTWTA was pretty well finished. And from what NoneOfYourBusiness sez, it is. Why will it be a wait of more than a year? Something strange is happening in the movie release biz....

Oh, and I believe Fanboys hits DVD this month. Ah, will it be worth the wait..?

Posted by: j on September 5, 2008 at 22:41:48

Damn I just realized that The Box is coming out the same day as KNOWING, well I guess that will be a double header day!

Where the wild things are is going to really suck, they keep putting this film off because the first screening scared the **** out of kids. So they had to refilm it and now it's a very toned down version of the book. Basically it's not Barney.

Posted by: Mikey on September 6, 2008 at 14:20:33

I saw a screening of Where the wild things last fall. Almost none of the cg was done, but it was the complete film. First, it does not suck, its actually pretty cool. It's a lot like the book in tone and spirit, characters. but everything is very expanded. I liked it a lot, it's not that dark, but it's kinda of a sad film.

I look forward to seeing it again in theaters.

I don't rememeber reading the book.

Posted by: Tedzey on September 6, 2008 at 17:37:01

Jonze does fit that Maurice Sendak-Windsor McCay mold. Looking foward to seeing it!

Posted by: Gino on September 6, 2008 at 20:36:55

Del Toro is no longer associated with this project

Posted by: Matt on September 7, 2008 at 16:33:16

Now that Soul Men nows opens on Nov. 7, two Bernie Mac films will open that day.

Posted by: amez on October 2, 2008 at 11:51:57

They better release Where the wild things are. The filmed in my street for 2 months. Filled the whole street with snow, it looked amazing.
