July 22, 2008
ComingSoon.net caught up with DreamWorks Animations CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg on Tuesday and learned that George Lucas is looking to repurpose the six "Star Wars" episodes into 3D format.
Katzenberg told us that Lucas is very excited about it and that he's got the technical resources to pull it off. "He isn't going to put a product out, I think, that isn't anything other than first rate," Katzenberg said.
Stay tuned for possibly more on this soon.

doesn't Lucas have enough money? All Sta Wars and Indiana Jones stuff aside, he owns ILM and Skywalker sound which is what every single movie uses so I mean come on...it's not like he's trying to pay off some bills

I love how 3D is being talked about a technical innovation as if it hasn't been around for 40+ years.

COME ON!! This is going to be amazing!!! It's not Pixar 3D it's 3D as in put on your RealD 3D glasses. Who doesn't want to to see the Death Star sequence as if U WERE THERE, or Obi-Wan vs. Anakin UP CLOSE. This talk has been happening since Attack of the Clones was released on IMAX. If this works imagine other potential re-releases in 3D like Dark Knight. Not a money thing it's a technological innovation that will make film history.

Give me a break, this series has been milked enough.

I think he's doin it 4 the fans, not for himself. He's doin it becuz he knows that his new clone wars series is going to suck major balls becuz it's being produced by ***get warner bros. instead of 20th century fox but i digress. I'm pretty sure this is going to be for fans and not for money. besides, wouldn't all star wars fans want to relive the adventures in 3-d? I do, so i am excited. So stop hatin'!! Damn!!

I loathe Star Wars now. And it's all George Lucas' fault:(

He already said he'd do this to be released in 2007. Whoops!

Lucas really doesn't care about what the fans think. I thought that after Star Wars he was going to make abstract experimental and low budget films. Face it, George Lucas came up with an exciting idea, executed by amazing designers and professionals, takes all the credit as if he started his own religion, and continues to benefit financially continually ripping off fans by reincarnating the same three movies.

I think George Lucas knows that he doesn't know how to direct anymore, so he's just going to keep on playing with these.

If you think back to when 4-6 were in theatres with the new scenes and the killed at the box office what happened we all went to see them and we all bought the trilogy on tape and then he said he was doing 1-3 . OK well now it's 1-6 again and of course that money from us to go see them in 3-d . (don't say your not going we all will check them out) i believe that money will benefit Star Wars franchise in some way whether it's for the cartoon or the tv show or perhaps 7-9 with future Skywalkers and Solos the man puts the money back into the franchise from us . WE keep the franchise alive

How is this guy even percieved as a director let alone a creator anymore, he keeps doing the same thing over and over and over.... why not do the rest of the star wars instead of redoing the same ones over. This guy blows chunks.

"He isn't going to put a product out, I think, that isn't anything other than first rate,"

I thought George Lucas was dead....the last three Star Wars indicated it.
