July 18, 2009

TheOneRing.net reports that rebuilding of Hobbiton has begun for the filming of The Hobbit and its sequel. The first film is scheduled for a December 2011 release, followed by the second film in December of 2012. The site says:

The re-building of Hobbiton has begun, with the planting of hedgerows and fruit trees. An extension to the path that passes in front of Bag End has been marked out also. There will be several new Hobbit holes dotted along its length.

I'm excited about this as I am already cast to be an extra. I'm actually a midget so I will be one of the random hobbits walking around in Hobbiton. Just look for the black hobbit. That's me.

Kazakhstan, etc: From what I understand, the two parts are going to be partly the Hobbit, and partly about where Gandalf disappears to during much of the movie, which, as I recall, is in one of the other books of Tolkiens-though I may be wrong. But it follows Gandalf as well as Bilbo and the dwarves.
