Weaving Not Quite Back Yet for Hobbit

Last Friday, director Guillermo del Toro announced on BBC Radio 5's Simon Mayo that Hugo Weaving will reunite with Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen in The Hobbit "...as the roles they originated in the trilogy."

Weaving told Moviehole today that he's interested in returning as Elrond, but that he hasn't been spoken to yet.

"I knew that if and when it happened I'd get a call and we'd chat about it, but I haven't spoken to anyone about it. Someone said to me 'I hear you're doing the Hobbit?' I said 'Well, um, probably', they said "No, no. you've signed on'. I haven't actually talked to anyone about it. Doesn't mean I won't be doing it, [I'm] just not onboard yet."

You can read more of his quotes here. The first of the two films is scheduled to be released in December of 2011 followed by the second in December of 2012.

I can't wait to read "Mc Kellen Serkis and Weaving Officially signed on" followed by "Bilbo Baggins to be played by...." then "The Hobbit has begun production"....:)

The only way I'll see the two movies is if they can brign back as many original cast members for these two. Namely McKellen, Serkis, and Weaving... As for the role of Bilbo Baggins I do not reallly object if they re-cast the role with a younger actor but it would be nice if Ian Holm had some sort of involvement in it.

Of course Hugo's gonna do it. As for Ian Holm, i think the only way he'll be in it is if the story is told flashback style. I heard a rumour James McAvoy may be getting cast as Bilbo but i'm sure if it had happened we would have heard ALL about it by now.

Amidst the string of who will or who won't return, my concern is Ian Holm. The seasoned actor is old old old. Can he perform the demands of the role?
Weaving will most likely be in this film, but its going to be a unusual feeling if Holm is not part of this project.

Yeah, just like if we don't see Shatner in a ST film that takes place at a time before we ever saw him before! Oh wait...

I would like them to make up Ian Holm to be younger because the truth is, we already sort of saw him play Bilbo in "The Hobbit". In the prologue to "Fellowship" they show us younger Bilbo finding Gollum's lost ring and it's Holm. To have that scene all over again, and possibly in a completely different costume would create an odd continuity error. I realize though that that particular scene was filmed over ten years ago though.

McAvoy could be ok

I was hoping Ian Holm would return many months ago, but as the days go on, it's pretty much okay with me if they find someone similar to Holm for younger Bilbo. The continuity error would be so minute, it doesn't bother me at all.

As for Hugo... COME BACK! You gotta play Elrond!

Still curious as to who will play the infamous Smaug... now that's got me pumping just as much as any other casting.
