86-year-old Christopher Lee has expressed his interest in returning as Saruman in Guillermo del Toro's The Hobbit and/or the untitled sequel.

While the evil wizard is not featured in the "Lord of the Rings" prequel, the two films give plenty of room for Saruman to return in some aspect. Lee tells Empire Online:

I'd be interested in seeing how that transition from good to evil occurred and, yes, of course I would return to the role if I was asked.

Sweet!! Christopher Lee was great as Saruman. Good to see more of the original cast in The Hobbit.

No actor previously involved was a bigger Tolkien fan than Lee. I'd say he's in.

They can't have Saruman in the Hobbit however I can see him F2. I haven't got a chance to read the other writings but I'm going to try soon.

That is great news, I'm glad to hear that he is interested. I know that in an online chat with Peter Jackson and Guillermo that they both said that they want all the original cast if intersted back for the sequel if a part presents itself.

LORT fan, that online chat was great! I love how they talked about Smaug being the dragon of all dragons. At least that's how I took it.

DEEJAY, he may be 86, but he was 79 or so in SW: Episode 2 and was throwing a lightsaber around!
