Guillermo del Toro on The Hobbit Films

Empire caught up today with Guillermo del Toro, who told the magazine that he is still not fully signed for The Hobbit and its sequel.

"I wish it was definite, but it isn't," he said. "It's still in talks, there are still a lot of 'T's to cross and 'I's to dot. It's certainly not certain yet…But, as far as I'm concerned, [if it was definite] I would be packed in ten seconds."

He's not worried at this time about the lawsuit that was revealed earlier this week, but he did say he would love to bring back actors from "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy whose characters appear in the new films.

"Yeah, absolutely. I've been pretty much incredibly open about the things that I love and don't love in the past. I've turned down huge franchises in the past because there are parts of that world I don't gel with. The reason I took 'Blade II' is because I love the characters that Stephen Norrington created and the actors he used. That times ten is the reason why I'm interested in 'The Hobbit.'"

Hated Hellboy and think it's sequel will wreak. But Labyrinth shows his penchant for the fantasy genre and I think he would be a perfect fit in Middle Earth.

I've seen Hellboy and Pans Labyrinth and have loved them both. This guy definately has a thing for good fantasy movies. I'd say he's almost perfect for The Hobbit.

Sounds great. As a fan of the books... didn't love the rings trilogy, but I think if anyone can make a good Hobbit movie it is GDT. Other than Mimic, every film he has directed has been excellent. I would much rather see his long awaited "At The Mountains of Madness" but I am sure this can only help that film down the road.

If there is anyone besides Peter Jackson that can do this movie, its Guillermo del Toro!

Absolutly... If not Mr. Jackson, the Mr. Del Toro is an excellent pic. Now if Peter Jackson produces and colaborates with Guillermo, that might just be an epic piece of art worthy of Mr. Tolken himself.

Del Toro's the man for this art film about the little guys from the shire. But I would rather he get onto the Tarzan movies he's mentioned about. Just imagine him doing the Burrough's novels of the ape man, complete with dinosaurs!!! Now that is how Tarzan should be done!

So, as a person who didn't read the books, which returning characters are in the Hobbit books?

Well....PJ and Del Toro also kinda looked like each other at some point....so it is destiny! Short stalky guys are meant to direct these films!! haha....But I am really happy New Line is getting a clue and hiring a talented director like Del Toro to direct this film. I can only expect great things to come out of this!
