Mini-Review:
"Toy Story" finally gets the Blu-ray treatment and it's a most welcome addition to anyone's collection. If you have a HD home theater system, you know that Pixar movies are some of the best for showing off your picture quality. While some of the animation does seem a bit archaic now compared to what they're able to do today, you really begin to appreciate what they were able to accomplish when you have the chance to examine it in detail on a Blu-ray presentation. If you have owned "Toy Story" on VHS or DVD, you might wonder if it's worth getting on Blu-ray. The answer is a definitive yes on picture quality alone.

But the next question is whether or not the bonus features make a re-purchase worthwhile. The answer is kind of. They are definitely excellent, but by themselves it might be hard to justify the purchase. But taken as a part of the whole, they're the icing on the cake. You get a sneak peek of "Toy Story 3" and a brief look at the plot of the film. You see the toys send themselves to a daycare in order to be played with more, then have second thoughts once they get there. Also included are the "Buzz Lightyear Mission Logs". Disney partnered with NASA to send a Buzz Lightyear up to the space station. These shorts show Buzz floating in zero-g while teaching lessons on the Space Shuttle. "Buzz Takes Manhattan" shows the creation of the Buzz balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. You see it inflated and John Lasseter walking it through the parade. One of the highlights of the bonus feature are some animated shorts talking about the early days of Pixar. They talk about Lasseter's piece of junk car that he drove around, scooter races in the halls of the office, and other amusing anecdotes. There's also a feature showing various people from Pixar talking about how they got into programming and animation. As an added bonus, you get all the bonus features from the previously released DVD. So all in all, this is the definitive "Toy Story" disc to have in your collection.
