The following is the official description of the film:

"See one of the screen's biggest action-adventure epics like never before - on Blu-ray Hi-Def! Set in the future when Earth is completely covered in water and the human race is struggling to survive, mankind's one remaining hope for a better future is a drifter (Kevin Costner) who gets caught up in a battle between the evil Deacon (Dennis Hopper) and a child's secret key to a wondrous place called "Dryland." Featuring groundbreaking special effects, Waterworld is a visually stunning, futuristic thriller beyond your wildest imagination!"

"Waterworld" is rated PG-13 for some intense scenes of action violence, brief nudity, and language.

Mini-Review:
"Waterworld" took a beating back in 1995 because the production was so troubled, the budget went way out of control, and it seemed to suffer from the star's hubris. But despite the trashing it got in the media, I always found it to be an entertaining film. It had a lot to offer. It had a great post-apocalyptic setting. Flooding the world and showing the survivors in a "Mad Max"-like, oceanic environment was pretty cool. It's the stuff of Al Gore's nightmares. It had a memorable score by James Newton Howard that you still hear in movie trailers nearly 15 years later. It also had some pretty spectacular action sequences that were good enough to inspire a stunt show at Universal Studios. The assault on the atoll and the battle on the oil tanker were both the kind of thing action junkies enjoy. And while Kevin Costner was pretty wooden in his line delivery, he did handle the action quite well. As for the performances, I was impressed with Jeanne Tripplehorn as Helen and Tina Majorino as Enola. Dennis Hopper also delivered yet another over-the-top performance as Deacon. Overall, it's a fun action-adventure worth checking out.

The movie looks great on Blu-ray, but I was a little annoyed to hear that there's an extended version out there that's 45 minutes longer. That's a version I would have liked to have seen. I was also disappointed to find out that there were no bonus features on the DVD. Sure, you can get online and download some of the BD Live features, but it's more trouble than it's worth.

If you've never seen "Waterworld," I suggest you check it out. It's an action packed production that has its fair share of problems, but the good definitely outweighs the bad. However, you may want to wait on buying the Blu-ray until they issue the extended version.
