The following is the official description of the film:
"Lifelong best friends Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathaway) have shared a dream since childhood: Each yearns for the perfect June wedding at New York's famed Plaza Hotel. But when a clerical error puts them both down for nuptials on the same day at the same time, one of them will just have to switch the date, right? As if! More than the bouquet goes flying when these desperate brides-to-be "duke it out" for matrimonial supremacy! Full of fun, fashion and heartwarming moments.
"Bride Wars" is rated PG for suggestive content, language and some rude behavior.
"Bride Wars" is a chick flick, pure and simple. This is the kind of movie women watch together and leave the guys at home to see. So I'm not really the target audience for this movie. But a good chick flick entertains men and women like a good children's film entertains both kids and adults. So will a male who finds himself in the position of watching "Bride Wars" survive intact? Eh, somewhat.
"Bride Wars" is at its best during the 'wars' part. Liv gets Emma a bright orange spray on tan and she ends up looking like an Oompa Loompa. Emma retaliates by getting Liv's hair dyed blue. Liv strikes back by replacing a touching video with a spring break 'girls gone wild' video starring Emma. So these are the highlights of the movie. Unfortunately, "Bride Wars" spends a third of the film setting this up, a third of the film with the pranks, and a third of the film with the touching resolution. So only the middle third is really entertaining, at least to this guy. It then wraps up way too fast.
Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway have proven themselves adept at comedy in the past, and they do so again here. They have some good chemistry together and are equally convincing at being friends and enemies. The more outrageous they get in their battles, the more fun they are. (On a side note, it was cool to see our former TheForce.Net video hostess Hettienne Park in a role as one of the friends in "Bride Wars." Way to go Hettienne!)
"Bride Wars" is going to be enjoyed by women a heck of a lot more than men, but it is survivable for the guys. My advice, let your significant other choose this for a rental one evening so you can build up credit for the big summer action flicks next round.
The DVD has fewer bonus features than the Blu-ray. There are barely any here. I'm talking about maybe 6 minutes total running time. There are three deleted scenes. Most notable is a scene where Emma "Bedazzles" Liv's Vera Wang wedding dress. There's also a brief featurette that is mainly a commercial for Vera Wang wedding dresses. They must have gotten some sweet promotional deal from this. Other than the trailer, that's it for bonus features.
