Soar with your favorite heroes through some stellar adventures!

Mini-Review:
This DVD features 5 episodes from the TV series. It's a little bit odd because the only really recognizable character on the show is Superman. I kind of wonder if that hurts the series as far as attracting viewers, but once you get into it, the other characters begin to grow on you. Braniac 5 is somewhat recognizable thanks to his villainous ancestor, but most viewers have probably never heard of Bouncing Boy, Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad, or some of the others. The series is unique in that it can easily venture into high action/adventure or comedy with ease. "The Substitutes" demonstrates this as a group of hero rejects with lame powers must battle a Z-Grade villain who may destroy the Earth. It's filled with a lot of hilarious over-the-top moments that culminate with the day being saved by a hero who turns into an inert statue as his power. But then you can have episodes like "Sundown" where the epic action takes place.

I sat my kids down in front of this series and they thoroughly enjoyed it. They were still for a half hour which is great. Comic fans will want to check it out too. I think DC fans may appreciate the vast array of characters on a different level than other fans.

Unfortunately, there are no bonus features on this DVD. I suppose you'll have to wait for the full season DVD for that.
