Synopsis:
The following is from the official synopsis of the film:

"The Hilarious Misadventures of 'Get Smart's' Gadget Geeks!

Loved 'Get Smart'? Get more! Get extra spy-spoof hilarity when 'Get Smart's' bungling inventors Bruce (Masi Oka) and Lloyd (Nate Torrence) stumble into their own comedy adventure in a zany story paralleling 'Get Smart' (and including surprise star cameos from that 2008 movie). The R&D smarties are out of the lab and way out of the lab and way out of their comfort zones as they scramble to find a nifty new invention they've somehow lost - an invisibility cloak - before KAOS does. Of course, the whole invisibility thing really complicates matters. And learning on the fly how to be a spy is a big-time challenge for our heroes. Would you believe you'll have to watch to discover how they do it?!"

"Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control" is rated PG-13 for crude humor and some language.

Mini-Review:
I'll start off by saying that I enjoyed "Get Smart." It wasn't spectacular, but it was amusing. I liked Bruce and Lloyd in the film and since I'm a big "Heroes" fan, I wanted to see more of Masi Oka as Bruce. I also think it's a fantastic idea to film a spin-off or sequel at the same time as the main production and use the same set, actors, etc. It's something I'd like to see more of.

That being said, I was very disappointed by "Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control." It's simply not that funny. It's too light and un-amusing to entertain adults, but there's too much language and sexual innuendo to make it appropriate for kids. There's no perfect audience for this film.

Masi Oka as Bruce and Nate Torrence as Lloyd are both OK, but they alone can't carry a movie. They're better used as supporting characters like they are in the "Get Smart" film. Larry Miller gets a few laughs as the second in command at CONTROL, but none of the other characters really stand out. A few of the actors from the movie make cameos including the receptionist, Patrick Warburton as Hymie, and some of the scientists. Anne Hathaway has a brief cameo as Agent 99, but it's less than a minute. Unfortunately, Steve Carrell, Dwayne Johnson, and Alan Arkin are nowhere to be seen despite being much needed.

If you're a fan of "Get Smart," I recommend you just rent this cheaply or wait for it to arrive on TV. It's mildly amusing, but that probably isn't enough to justify the expense.

You'll find a few minor bonus features on this DVD. There are some "confessionals" where the actors ad-lib in character. There's a featurette on their gadgets and some of the real science behind them. Another featurtte delves deeper into the scenes with the "anti-follicular device".
