"Lake Placid 2" is unrated. The original was rated R for creature violence and some nudity.

The Movie:
I enjoyed the first "Lake Placid" movie when it hit the big screen. Giant monster movies are one of my guilty pleasures. I was looking forward to seeing this sequel. However, "Lake Placid 2" was horrible on absolutely every front. The alligator effects looked incredibly bad. The CG was on par with beginner effects in fan films you see online. The alligator looked like a giant brown blob and it never made waves in the water as it splashed around. Even a CG seaplane looked terribly fake. They must have spent their entire budget on John Schneider. And as much as I like the guy, he's pretty bad in this movie. In fact, every cast member in this film had a poor performance. For example, a guy gets eaten and dismembered and the surviving characters stop seconds later to have a romantic squabble or a casual conversation. It was pretty poorly conceived. But it doesn't matter how good of a cast you have if the script is poor. That's the case with ""Lake Placid 2." They simply rehash the script of the first "Lake Placid," but they manage to execute it so poorly that it finds a new level of suckage to achieve. You still have gross-out alligator attacks. You still have a foul-mouthed old lady raising the alligators. There's very little new here. And while a version of this aired on TV, this new unrated version adds a lot of pointless T&A to the mix. It's added in with all the subtlety and art of porn. For example, a guy and two girls arrive at the lake. One girl strips down, then dives in the lake. As the guy stares, the other girl chews him out for staring at the topless girl. She then takes her top off and joins the first girl as they laugh and splash naked in the water. Huh? This film is only 70 minutes long, but it feels like an eternity. Save yourself and avoid it.

One of the bonus features pretty much sums up what the creators had in mind when they made this movie. In "Lake Placid 2: The Gnawed Up Version", the movie fast forwards and stops at the alligator attack scenes and the nudity. Guess you see where their priorities lie. In "Sex, Guns, and Croc-n-Roll", they just show behind the scenes footage set to rock music. Rounding things out is "Surviving a Crocodile Attack" which is nothing more than text on the screen set to clips from the movie.
