The following is from the DVD cover:
"In the tradition of favorite sci-fi classics comes another edge-of-your-seat thriller from the producer of Piranha and Dinocroc. When an ambitious geneticist (Jo Bourne-Taylor) tries to advance her career by creating vaccines from notorious resilient insects, the project is seized by the U.S. military to advance their own bioweaponry program. But something has gone horribly wrong! Now these huge, nearly indestructible creatures are on the loose with fierce killing instincts! Can Major Nick Reynolds (Jeff Fahey) and his Delta Force team rid the earth of this menace before evolution takes a nasty turn for the worse?""
"Scorpius Giganticus" is rated R for violence and language.
If you pick out a movie entitled "Scorpius Giganticus", you're probably not expecting Academy Award winning material. And you'd be right. And if you see that Roger Corman is involved in the production, you'd expect a C-grade film. And you'd be right again. This movie has all the Corman trademarks – low budget, poor effects, terrible scripts, bad acting, and any other negative thing you could think of. It's all here. I held out a little hope that "Scorpius Giganticus" might have some redeeming qualities. After all, you can make some pretty good looking CG effects on home computers these days, but that wasn't the case here. This movie looked like it had been created by some newbie fan film director for the internet. It was pretty bad despite promises on the DVD cover that it was "in the tradition of Starship Troopers".
The acting was just flat out awful. Jeff Fahey is the only recognizable name in the cast, but even he is dragged down by the bad script and poor supporting cast performances. The story tries to rip off everything from "Aliens" to the aforementioned "Starship Troopers" and it's not successful in any way. While the giant bug stupidly kills one person after another, the soldiers lamely debate women in the military, the scientist makes dumb comments about the superbug, and the general spouts illogical excuses as to why they can't kill the bug. The final result is a stupid, illogical, silly mess. It's not even dumb enough to properly make fun of.
Thankfully, there are no bonus features on this DVD.
