Both a critical hit and fan favorite, season one burst onto the television landscape with gripping plot lines, a sensational soundtrack, and hot stars, including Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, and Sandra Oh. Now you can experience all the drama, romance, and excitement of Grey's Anatomy from the very beginning. Meet Meredith Grey, a brilliant first-year surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital. Together with her fellow residents in training, Meredith navigates her way through the daily traumas and social landmines of life inside the hospital and out in the real world. ” is a smart and witty look at young people struggling to be doctors and doctors struggling to stay human.”
Grey's Anatomy: Season One is rated TV-14.
I've seen a lot of hype for Grey's Anatomy, but I never checked it out. It's the favorite series of several friends of mine, but I never had any desire to see what the fuss was about. However, when it arrived on DVD, I got a chance to see why everyone was so enamored with it. The best way I could describe Grey's Anatomy is to say it's a medical dramedy that's somewhere between ER and Scrubs. It has all the drama, emotion, and medical procedures of ER. It also has some of the humor, medical student angst, and romance of Scrubs. If you like either of those series, there's a good chance Grey's Anatomy will appeal to you.
Grey's Anatomy has a strong cast. The lineup of beautiful actors plays the full range of stereotypes – the intelligent babe, the arrogant hotshot, the grouchy lead doctor, the best friend, and many more. Despite having seen all these characters before on other shows, they are still likable. What's not so likable in the series is their effort to bend over backwards to be trendy. The show features pop music at odd times, beautiful people filled with angst despite being lined up to make more money than you'll ever see, and a lineup of doctors that makes it almost too diverse to be realistic. (Is every senior doctor in Seattle black?) Still, it's all forgivable. If you want reality, ER is your series.
The bonus features included on the DVD should make fans of the series happy. There are a large number of cut scenes from a variety of episodes. Most are from the pilot for the show. They provide a little more insight into the characters as well as a little more screentime for the secondary characters. There's also a "Behind the Scenes" featurette where they discuss the origins of the series, the casting of the show, the medical jargon, and more. There are also interviews with the cast and crew. You'll also find commentaries for the cut scenes and some of the episodes. It is all rounded out by an amusing "Avant-Garde Trailer" for the show. It's obviously a parody done by the creators all in French.
