Synopsis:
Momentum was originally released on TV in 2003. The following is from the DVD cover:

"Sexy Teri Hatcher (TV's Desperate Housewives, Tomorrow Never Dies) stars with Academy Award(R) winner Louis Gossett, Jr. (Best Supporting Actor, An Officer and a Gentleman, 1982) in this high-stakes supernatural thriller about a man whose special psychic gift is both a blessing and a curse! Zach Shefford is a physics professor with a well-kept secret: he can move objects with his mind! Then one day he's approached by undercover FBI agent Ray Addison (Gossett, Jr.) and enlisted to infiltrate a notorious criminal gang whose members have similar telekinetic powers and use them to rob and terrorize their victims! At the same time, Shefford and Addison are being shadowed by another FBI agent, Jordan Ripps (Hatcher), who believes they are part of the crime ring! But there can be no justice until Shefford determines who to trust -- Addison or Ripps -- and whether he should risk revealing his powers to the world!"

Momentum is rated R for violence and language.

The Movie:
Momentum is essentially a poor man's X-Men. You have characters with telekinetic powers committing crimes and living in hiding. You have a lead evil telekinetic character leading a group of fellow telekinetics into questionable activities in order to preserve their kind. You also have government spies trying to use their powers for military purposes. Many of the themes from the X-Men appear in Momentum. That will either be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view. Fortunately for me, as an X-Men fan, I was OK with it and quickly bought into the concept.

The casting in the movie is OK, but not fantastic. Grayson McCouch as Zachary Shefford and Nicki Lynn Aycox as Tristen Geiger are pretty faces, but they otherwise don't do anything to stand out in the movie. Louis Gossett Jr. and Teri Hatcher are the only really recognizable faces in the movie and neither of them are in it very long.

Since this is a low budget movie, they can't do much with special effects. However, they do pretty good with what they have available. A scene where Michael Massee as Adrian Geiger destroys an armored car is pretty cool as is a scene where he and his gang rob a bank vault. The action scenes are what really make Momentum interesting.

If you like comic book movies, then I think you're probably a prime candidate to enjoy Momentum. It's admittedly low budget and the script has a number of problems, but a lot of comic book themes appear in it and help make the story interesting.

The Extras:
There are no bonus features on this DVD.

The Bottom Line:
Despite all outward appearances, Momentum is a low budget comic book movie. Fans of Teri Hatcher may want to check it out, but be warned that she's not in it all that much.
