Synopsis:
This set features the first and second seasons of Quincy that aired in 1976 and 1977. The following is the description from the DVD cover:

"Quincy, M.E., the trail-blazing series that created the medical investigation genre, comes home to DVD for the first time ever in this gripping 3-disc set of Seasons One and Two! Television icon Jack Klugman is the crusading and headstrong medical examiner Dr. Quincy, the distinguished role that earned him 4 Emmy nominations. Aided by his loyal lab assistant Sam Fujiyama (Robert Ito), Quincy's not afraid to stand up for his convictions, and he'll battle anyone who stands in his way: his skeptical boss Dr. Asten (John S. Ragin), City Hall, and even sometimes his own friends and mentors. On the case with Quincy are celebrated guest stars such as Buddy Hackett, Donna Mills, Kim Cattrall, June Lockhart and Jamie Lee Curtis. Investigate all 16 episodes of Seasons One and Two, and watch as Quincy, M.E. probes into contemporary issues and makes a passionate stand for justice."

Quincy, M.E. is not rated.

The Series:
I remember watching Quincy on TV when it first aired in the late 70's / early 80's. I also remember seeing frequent reruns of the popular show (I guess it was on before cartoons during the summer). So it was quite a bit of fun to revisit the show all these years later.

If you've never seen Quincy, think of it as the predecessor to CSI or Crossing Jordan. The three shows have a lot in common, but Quincy did it all first. Each episode featured a murder mystery that was solved by Quincy using forensic science, hard investigation, and hard headedness. Quincy was an endearing character not only for his scientific skills, but because of his determination to solve a case no matter what obstacle lay in his way. This frequently put him at odds with other local law enforcement officers who were ready to wrap up cases and go on with their lives. You could count on every episode of the show to feature an intriguing murder mystery, conflict between Quincy and the cops, and a little science that goes a long way.

In a lot of these early TV shows, you'll see a lot of familiar faces from before they became famous. In Quincy you'll find guest appearances by Buddy Hackett, Donna Mills, Kim Cattrall, June Lockhart and Jamie Lee Curtis. I even spotted Jack Colvin who played Jack McGee on The Incredible Hulk.

If you're into murder mysteries or crime dramas, or if you're just a fan of the series, then you'll want to add the first and second seasons of Quincy to your DVD collections.

The Extras:
There are no bonus features included on this DVD.

The Bottom Line:
If you like CSI or Crossing Jordan, then you'll want to check out Quincy. He's the original TV medical examiner.
