Two surprise announcements followed an equally surprising live musical performance by Miley Cyrus at Disney's D23 Expo.

Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook officially named Summer 2012 as the release date for Pixar's John Carter of Mars, claiming that the film will, indeed, be live-action with intense special effects.

Following the announcement, Johnny Depp appeared in full Jack Sparrow costume, taking the stage and announcing a Summer 2011 release date for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the new title for the fourth installment!

I'm actually really pumped for the fourth Pirates movie, and all of this hype and hope is derived from the lack of Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley. I mean, did anyone else give two shakes about that storyline and those characters?

Nice! I cant wait for On Stranger Tides! I really thought it would've been named Aqua de Vida, like what was online since At Worlds End. I hope that Bloom and Knightley are not in it! Especially Knightely. I think the new Pirates trilogy will be better with just Jack Sparrow and Barbossa and co. Can't wait!

On Stranger Tides...ummm is this based on the 1988 Fantasy novel by Tim Powers???

...Which btw, Ron Gilbert said, inspired him to do Monkey Island.

Gosh, I really do not care about Pirates of the Caribbean -- I would so LOOOVE a Monkey Island movie instead !!!

Hoozah! I had the good fortune to meet and chat with Mr Powers earlier this year at a sci-fi convention in England, and he told me then that Disney had contacted him about optioning the rights to his book (as they should seeing as they stole most of his ideas for the first movie!).

He told me that he had informed Disney he had two conditions before signing his book over ... 1) that his wife and he would have dinner with Johnny Depp as part of the deal and 2) that Tim and his wife got to appear in the movie as extras! Ready for your close-up, Mr Powers?

I'm glad Tim is finally getting the cinematic recognition he deserves. On Stranger Tides is my favourite book of all-time. It's just a thing of pure magic. I hope the movie does it some justice.

If the book gets re-issued at the time the movie comes out then chances are it sell by the boat load (no pun intended)!

Now, about those Monkey Islands games ...

If they're gonna start a new trilogy without Kiera and Orlando being involved, I want them to bring in new characters... here's hoping Emily Blunt has some involvement. I dunno why, I can just see her in these movies. Plus, she's way hot!
