A24 has announced their acquisition of Academy-Award winner Sofia Coppola's latest, The Bling Ring.

The film depicts the story of the real-life "Bling Ring" – a group of kids from an affluent neighborhood in the valley that continually robbed the Hollywood homes of wealthy celebrities for almost a year before finally being caught. The cast includes Emma Watson, Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Claire Julien, and Taissa Farmiga. The film also features Leslie Mann, Gavin Rossdale, and real-life victim, Paris Hilton. It is based on the Vanity Fair article "The Suspects Wore Louboutins by Nancy Jo Sales" (which you can check out by clicking here).

"The Bling Ring," also known as the "Hollywood Hills Burglars," operated from October 2008 through August of 2009 and stole over $3 million in goods from their victims. They treated their burglaries like shopping sprees that afforded them access to the intimate lives of the celebrities they admired and the wardrobes to match. Sofia deftly and bluntly chronicles the lengths the ring went to infiltrate the celebrity culture they obsessed over. Shot in some of the real homes of the celebrity victims, the film is an entertaining heist picture that also says so much about today’s culture.

"Sofia Coppola is an iconic American filmmaker and she has focused her distinctive style and uncanny ability to capture the zeitgeist in 'The Bling Ring,'" A24 says. "We are thrilled to be working with her and look forward to bringing her undeniably fun and incredibly stylistic film to audiences nationwide."

"I'm really excited to work with A24 as they begin their company with so much energy and creativity," Coppola adds. "I can't wait for audiences to see our young cast and for people to see Emma Watson in a whole new way."

The Bling Ring was produced by Roman Coppola, Sofia Coppola, and Youree Henley. The film was executive produced by Emilio Diez Barroso and Darlene Caamano Loquet of NALA Films – NALA provided finance for the film; Michael Zakin and Francis Ford Coppola for American Zoetrope; and regular Coppola collaborators Fred Roos and Paul Rassam.
