Box Office Results: Skyfall Passes the $500 Million Mark Worldwide!

After opening almost everywhere internationally, Columbia Pictures and MGM's Skyfall hit North American theaters this weekend and debuted with $87.8 million for the Friday-to-Sunday frame, the biggest opening for a James Bond movie ever domestically. The 23rd installment of the franchise debuted with $2.2 million from 463 IMAX locations on Thursday and has taken in a total of $90 million since opening. The previous biggest opening for a 007 movie was Quantum of Solace, which earned $67.5 million its first weekend in November of 2008. Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw, averaged a strong $25,050 at 3,505 locations and saw $13.1 million of its total coming from IMAX theaters.

Internationally, Skyfall has reached $428.6 million for a worldwide total of $518.6 million so far. In comparison, Quantum of Solace earned $586.1 million total and Casino Royale reached $594.2 million.

60% of the opening weekend audience for Skyfall was male and 40% was female. 25% was under 25 years old and the film received an A CinemaScore. The movie reportedly cost $200 million to make.

Dropping down a spot to second place, but only 32.6% in ticket sales, Walt Disney Animation Studios' Wreck-It Ralph added another $33.1 million its second weekend to bring its total to $93.7 million. Costing $165 million to make, the animated hit took in $11.2 million this weekend overseas and has grossed $120 million worldwide.

Paramount's Flight landed in third place with $15.1 million. The film has earned $47.8 million domestically after two weeks in theaters.

Warner Bros.' Argo made $6.7 million in the fourth spot for a total of $85.7 million after five weeks, while Twentieth Century Fox's Taken 2 rounded out the five with $4 million and has earned $131.3 million.

DreamWorks Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox also opened Steven Spielberg's Lincoln in just 11 theaters this weekend in which it earned an impressive $900,000, or $81,818 per theater. The film received an A CinemaScore from audiences. Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook and Tommy Lee Jones, the $65 million drama will expand into over 1,500 theaters on Friday, November 16.
