Lionsgate has signed music video and commercials director Daniel Askill to a sci-fi project called When First We Were Gods. Deadline reports that Aron Eli Coleite (The End) will adapt from a short story by Rick Yancey.

Set in a world where immortality is an option for the rich, the film follows a man who attempts to murder his immortal wife so that his mortal mistress can, instead, live forever at his side.

Yancey is best known for his novel series, "The Highly Effective Detective," "The Monstrumologist" and "The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp." His forthcoming sci-fi series "The 5th Wave" was set up for feature development through GK Films earlier this year.
