UPDATE: CBS has indeed cast Brandon T. Jackson in the role! The original item follows...

Announced earlier this year, CBS is moving forward with a television series that continues the adventures of the Beverly Hills Cop feature film franchise. Today, Humor Mill is reporting that the show may have found its lead in actor Brandon T. Jackson.

Jackson, best known for roles in films like Tropic Thunder, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, would play the son of Eddie Murphy's Axel Foley. Murphy is also planning to reprise his original role in a guest-star capacity with the focus of the series being on the son.

In development at Sony Pictures Television, "The Shield" creator Shawn Ryan wil write the pilot with Murphy executive producing. The tone of the show is said to be an hourlong procedural, blending action and comedy.
