When British filmmaker Sam Mendes won an Oscar for directing his first feature film American Beauty back in 1999, few doubted he would have a thriving career as a director, but even fewer could have expected how long it would take him to make a movie that represented his British roots.
CS: It's interesting because you haven't really done any British movies. It's kind of strange when you think about it. You don't even think about it until you mention it.
