Mandalay Vision announced today they will produce, along with Vertigo Entertainment, Academy Award-nominated director Marjane Satrapi's (Persepolis) psychological thriller The Voices, which she will direct from an original script by Michael R. Perry (Paranormal Activity).

The story centers on Jerry Hickfang, a lovable but strange bathtub factory worker who yearns for the attention of a woman in accounting. When their relationship takes a sudden murderous turn, Jerry's evil "talking" cat and benevolent "talking" dog lead him down a fantastical path that ultimately brings him to salvation.

Matthew Rhodes, President of Mandalay Vision, said, "Mandalay Vision is thrilled to be in business with such extraordinary talent. Between Michael Perry's unique voice, and Marjane's visionary style, we couldn't be more excited to make this picture."

Film producer Roy Lee said, “Marjane Satrapi is the ideal director for Michael Perry's inventive and horrifying script. We are excited to bring Satrapi's vision of the 'The Voices' to audiences across the world."

Mandalay Vision's Matthew Rhodes and Cathy Schulman will co-produce the film with Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee, whose credits include The Departed, The Ring, The Strangers, and The Grudge. Mandalay Senior Vice President Adam Stone will produce and oversee the project forMandalay.

Casting is underway for an early 2013 start of principal photography.
