Universal Pictures and Bad Robot Plan Earthquake

The film in the works for some time, Deadline reports that the J.J. Abrams-produced Earthquake has brought aboard Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar) to provide the screenplay.

Originally planned to be written by David Seltzer (The Omen), Earthquake is not intended to be a remake of Universal's 1974 film, though it will share the central premise of a tectonic disaster on a massive scale.

New Line Cinema is, meanwhile, developing an earthquake film of their own with Carlton Cuse, himself a Bad Robot alumn as a writer on "Lost", attached to write. Although it's not currently moving forward, Warner Bros. also has tentative plans to bring to the screen Brad Bird's period earthquake project, 1906.
